Underground Urban Caretaking portrays hands, filmed close-up, accompanied by stories from several non-profit associations and small-scale urban actors, such as a feminist tattoo collective, a drumming school and various handicraft associations. The setting is the Stockholm suburb of Bagarmossen, built mainly in the 1950s and inspired by the neighbourhood unit concept. Apartment buildings, mostly three storeys tall, are oriented along narrow, circular streets with pedestrian walkways connecting them to the community centre with library, shops and a subway station.

We wanted to find new tools, as architects, to gather and create knowledge, and to transgress the boundaries of what is valued as important in architectural projects. In making a short film, our intention was to unearth social knowledge that is usually not considered in planning and building processes.
